Prague Uprising

80 Years Since May 1945

Where the guns fell silent, bells are ringing again. We invite you to explore Prague in May 1945. We will guide you through the sites of the insurgents’ events, the traumas of the war and post-war periods, and the hopes and illusions. Exhibitions, memories, an interactive map, and diverse events within our project commemorate the critical days of the Prague metropolis.

Exhibition

The ressurection of a bell

War silenced one of the oldest Czech bells at the Old Town Hall. During the Prague Uprising, it shattered into dozens of shards – 46 of which remain in our depository. Come and see how the bell is regaining its appearance and sound, thanks to the efforts of historians and modern technologies, and learn about its story.

Barricades

Past and Present

Barricades became a symbol of the courage exhibited by the people of Prague during the uprising in May 1945. Their legacy can be recognised even today – by searching for historical sources or referring to the symbolism of barricades in art. The artistic installation commemorates the past through the language of the present.
